Class 1 & 2 MOT Motorcycle Testing


Class 1 & 2 Motorcycle Testing equipment :

As with all MOT Bays Approved by the DVSA you will need a building of the right dimensions including working height, length and width. Whilst filling out the VT01 Application Form you will require a layout drawing of the proposed bay and you will need a qualified Examiner.

1. A calibrated roller brake tester : 


Roller Brake Test with wall mounted 
or pedestal mounted dials.

You will need a roller brake tester.                                 We have offered the BT5000 MKII roller brake tester for over 20 years now. Firmly established in the UK as the benchmark for motorcycle MOT brake testing. The BT5000 MKII is sure to increase customer confidence and hugely improve company profile, as well as giving you the accurate and consistent readings you want, time and time again.

It is very neat and compact and fitted flush into the floor, the readings are taken from a wall or floor mounted console with remote control. Being mounted this way ensures complete freedom from obstruction in the testing area. Using this unit couldn't be more simple - just ride onto the unit and the BT5000 MKII does the rest, testing the brakes and weighing the bike with a user-friendly remote control handset to command the operation.

Designed to test the brakes of all motorcycles regardless of size, weight or wheel size.

The combination of analogue and digital display provides valuable diagnostic information relevant to brake performance such as drum ovality.

3. A decelerometer with handlebar mount : 

Bowmonk BrakeCheck. 

The Bowmonk BrakeCheck is our chosen self-contained, user-friendly, portable brake tester, used by many workshops, government traffic authorities and Authorised Test Facilities (ATF's)

Used to record the braking efficiency and percentage of braking imbalance of "all classes" of vehicle from a Motorcycle to an HGV, in a matter of minutes. 

Designed to be self-compensating, the instrument will indicate on the LED screen when it is positioned level enough to perform a brake test, with a generous tolerance to ensure that this is easy to achieve. 

Test results can be viewed on the display panel or downloaded to a PC for saving or printing.  A printed report can also be produced at the time of testing using the portable infra-red printer and can be purchased as a kit in a handy carry case.

4. A set of alignment Bars : (as per the DVSA’s requirements)

1. Inspection area equipment will be considered suitable if the following are provided:
a) wheel alignment checking apparatus comprising of two straight bars of at least 2.0m long or two strong cords of at least 2.5m long.

Other equipments, not mandatory but very helpful :

In the MOT regulations for Class 1 & 2 testing you will be required to lift the front and rear wheels of motorcycles to enable testing of wheel bearings. It is up to you to provide something to facilitate this?

If you dont want to invest in the motorcycle stand and technicians kit another option would be Paddock Stands, obviously there are several different types for different manufacturers and most MOT Stations would require a selection : Universal rear, front fork mounted, universal yoke and single arm rear stands for Ducati, Honda and Triumph etc, etc.
